WINNERS

SHARON HOUSE

PRESIDENT OF AVANT-GARDE DESIGNS

Sharon Bosley House started her company Avant Garde more than 25 years ago. She is respected in the wedding industry for her beautiful décor, creativity and planning services. In mid-March 2020, Sharon joined her friends at Operation Ramzieh. The idea for this project was to provide food and other supplies to seniors, single mothers and struggling families who were scared or unable to leave their homes. Sharon would pack boxes and deliver them to homes and apartments in the city with her family, friends and staff members. Sharon showed tremendous compassion for the vulnerable population in Ottawa.

In August 2020, Sharon opened a store in Westboro with business partners called Noor Market. The importance of this store is that it’s focused on selling products and unique items from a local farm or a family-owned business. Sharon has even promoted items on her shelves and through her social media to help struggling local companies. All these touches show that Sharon truly cares for her community and the people that live in it.

For many years, Sharon has been a mentor to the Event Management program at Algonquin College where she provides her guidance to the students and supports them by volunteering her time and donating her décor to raise money for various charities including the Children’s Wish Foundation

In the middle of February of 2021, the pandemic had been in the world for 11 months and it was apparent we were dealing with exhausted front line and health care workers. Sharon recognized the importance of lifting the spirits of these people and giving back to them who have given so much to us. With a longtime friend by the name of Catherine Landry – another business owner who had lost everything to the pandemic, Sharon created Love613. The objective of this new project by Sharon is to bring joy and smiles to front line workers in the form of gifts, balloons, food and other feel-good items that are personally delivered to our local hospitals and other locations. Each package has made a difference to a health care worker that could someday save your life or that of a loved on. Here is Sharon in her own words telling us about Love613.

Sharon has not only been a leader with her wedding company that has presented some of the most beautiful weddings this city has ever seen, Sharon has provided décor for the Ottawa Children’s Gala for many years that raises money for CHEO. She has also donated her services, her décor, time and her staff for numerous galas in this city including her own called the Kaleidoscope of Hope that she started back in 2011 to raise money for support programs and facilities for youth. For 10 years, Sharon and her husband Tony House have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars that has all gone into helping the young people in our community who suffer with depression, suicidal thoughts, and substance abuse.

Sharon Bosley House is one incredible caring member of our wedding industry and she is the Industry Leader for 2021.

Sharon has been a mentor for many in the Event Management program at Algonquin College. She volunteers her time and donates her décor to support numerous charities including her own gala – Kaleidoscope of Hope. During the pandemic, she helped start Love613 – delivering care-packages to frontline workers.

TSIRMPA AWARD

The Tsirmpa Award for community service recognizes the outstanding commitment and dedication by an individual in the wedding industry.

The Tsirmpa Award was established in 2014 in honor of Eugenia Tsirmpa – a wonderful lady who passed away in 2013. She was the creator and owner of Details Ottawa and one of the finest decorators in the city. She worked on some of the most high profile events, galas and weddings. Eugenia was more than a great business woman. She was one of the most giving people in the world. She constantly donated her time, her services, and her supplies to everyone who asked.

Eugenia had a good heart and the wedding industry lost her way too soon. In her memory, this award was created to honor those people who carry on her spirit by giving back to the community in so many ways through their involvement in the wedding industry.
To receive this award is a great honor because it means this person does more than donate their supplies – they get involved. The winners of the Tsirmpa Award are great leaders in our community. If you know, someone that deserve this awards, nominate them!

Nomination Tips

Award recipients are selected based on their recent or present volunteer contribution to not-for-profit or charitable organizations as well as their active involvement in the wedding industry. These are recommendations for a successful submission and not mandatory.

TSIRMPA AWARD WINNERS

Lynne Langille

Owner, Exceptional Ceremonies

Lynne has volunteered for the Children’s International Summer Village and she served on the executive for 10 years.

She was a high school teacher for 37 years where she was actively involved in her spare time for their annual theatre productions where she was the director and costumes manager. As a teacher, she also volunteered her time to organize the end of year graduation celebrations.

For 5 years, Lynne was involved with a theatre company where she was the costumes manager of all of their productions. This often meant that her living room and dining room we’re completely overtaken by racks of costumes for each production.

For six years, Lynne was a weekly volunteer driver for Meals on Wheels.

For over 20 years, Lynne was a volunteer at the Stittsville Food Bank.

For the past 10 years including now, Lynne has been a local community canvasser for the March of Dimes, the Parkinson Society, Cancer Society and several other charitable organizations.

In 2019, with some assistance from some volunteers, Lynne made over 125 of her famous tourtieres and in doing so, raised $1500 for mental health issues. In 2020, with very little help, due to the Covid, Lynne made over 150 tourtieres and raised another $2,000 for a total of $3,500

As a celebration of life celebrant, Lynne regularly volunteers her time to perform ceremonies for families of children who have passed away. As a wedding officiant, she has performed ceremonies every year at no charge for couples who cannot afford them.

Lynne learned to scuba dive at 63 years old. At the age of 66, Lynne climbed Huayna Picchu – a tall mountain in Peru then at age 67 walked over 300 kms of the Camino in Spain.

She has lived a wonderful balanced life of happiness as an educator, a volunteer, a celebration of life celebrant, a wedding officiant, a mother, sister, aunt, friend and grandmother. Lynne is described as being an extraordinarily generous and compassionate person who always goes above and beyond to make others feel happy, special, safe, and loved. She has an abundance of energy, motivation, a wonderful sense of humour and she always lights up any room with her warmth and smile. Her personal style and sense of fashion are notable, especially with her ever-growing collection of eyewear.

This year’s recipient is one of the oldest active wedding professionals in Ottawa. This year we are honored to present the Tsirmpa Award for being an outstanding individual in our wedding industry and in our community to Lynne Langille.

For her outstanding work with Children’s International Summer Village, Stittsville Food Bank and several other charitable organizations. For regularly volunteering her time to perform ceremonies for couples who cannot afford them & families in need.

Carrie Curry

Owner, CC Squared Photography

Carrie has taken a small company CC Squared Photography over the last 10 years and turned it into something we could have never dreamed of.

Year after year she donates as much time to volunteering as she humanly can and then some. In the last year alone she has been the president of the Avonmore Community Athletic Association where she was a valued member and ran many events, volunteered her services and did photography coverage of all the events.

She is a member of the Roxmore Public School Parent Council, helping plan, run and capture many yearly festivities. Carrie also volunteers her time to the local Stormont Dundas and Glengary SPCA for their annual holiday photo fundraiser and many other animal rescue group events. Carrie captures the Avonmore Ladies Night yearly, planning last years which raised over 10k for the local Baldwin House chapter.

This year Carrie has been also a part of the local chapter of 100 Women who Care event that raised 10k for the local park rebuilding project, both contributing and being their designated photographer. Carrie volunteers to coach both tee-ball and soccer in our small town as well. As she clearly never sleeps she also is a volunteer with the annual Constance Bay Breast Cancer Run.

Carrie is always the first one to send a donation of her time and images to any silent, live or online auction that is planned, over 40 this year alone. The last large community service from this year Carrie has taken on the role of helping a local family who lost their 20-month-old child to a backyard accident. She is hunting down gifts, services, cash and food donations to make their Christmas season a little less stressful.

Carrie is a active community member on a weekly basis and her goal in life is to give back and to teach our children how important community service is. She has worked so many weddings at no charge to make sure no couple goes without and always goes over and above to make every couple feel like royalty, We are very humbled to promote her and the 100’s of hours she happily spends making others laugh smile and have the special moments captured.

Carrie is a woman who does not realize what she can do. She has had major life traumas and losses, relearned how to walk, has to raised two fabulous kids on top of running this business. She handles all that life can throw at her with with a determination and fearlessness that she will truly never see.

Dayna Rose-Desmerais

Owner, Dayna’s Pet Sitting
President, SafePet Ottawa
Organizer -SafePet Gala

Dayna has a unique business and a passion that is very valuable to our community. The greatest thing is — it’s a business and passion that’s all about the care of animals – cats, dogs, guinea pigs, birds, turtles, rabbits and a lot more.

Dayna started her business originally as an animal rescue after volunteering her time with different rescue organizations. She saw all the terrible situations that animals were in and she wanted to do something about it. Throughout the summer months, you will often see this person at various fundraising events for animal rescue organizations

For weddings and other occasions, this woman and her team provide overnight care for animals and will even be there on the wedding day so the family pet can share in the special moment.

And one of her most important roles is the President for SafePet Ottawa – a charity that provides safe foster homes to animals so that women and children can leave abusive situations without fearing for the safety of their pets. You might think it’s crazy that people would stay in an abusive relationship for a pet – yet a high percentage women delay leaving the home because they didn’t have an option for their pet at the shelter or a friend’s house. Thanks to this person’s leadership with SafePet Ottawa, a woman in an abusive relationship has an option.

Dayna is the organizer of the annual SafePet Ottawa gala. The gala is an evening to fundraise and to raise awareness for putting an end to domestic violence against women.

For her outstanding care and fundraising of animals, as well as her amazing leadership with SafePet Ottawa. Dayna’s help for animals knows no bound.
